State Legislative Movement on Veteran and Military Students

The Education Commission of the States (ECS) has just released a brief on recent legislation passed by states that affects veteran and military students. The brief focuses on prior learning assessment, student support services, and policies to help students who are deployed in the middle of an academic term.

In 2013-14, 16 states enacted 22 bills (with one adopting an executive order) in these three categories affecting veterans and military students.

WICHE offers additional resources on state legislation and policy through it's State Higher Education Policy Database (SHEPD). The site has a category devoted specifically to regulation and legislation affecting adult learners that is searchable by individual state.
